This is a cylinder of R600a refrigerant from Sigma, supplied at 99.11% purity. R600a, also known as isobutane, is the hydrocarbon refrigerant used in modern domestic refrigerators and freezers, so it is what a technician reaches for when a sealed system has been opened, repaired and needs recharging.
The gas comes in a disposable cylinder. You charge from it until it is empty, then dispose of it. There is no cylinder to bring back and no exchange to arrange with a supplier.
- A clean charge into the system. The gas is supplied at 99.11% purity, so less contaminant goes into the compressor and lines during charging.
- The gas modern fridges and freezers run on. R600a is the hydrocarbon refrigerant fitted to current domestic refrigeration, so it suits sealed system repairs and recharges.
