The Sigma SIG-BIMW25G-8C is a 25 litre microwave made to be fitted into a kitchen cabinet rather than stood on the worktop. It heats, defrosts and grills, with all the controls set behind a flat glass panel to the right of the door.

The whole front is black with a mirror finish, so the oven reads as one dark panel in a run of units. Cooking is set from the touch pads and the dial in the middle, which starts a cycle and adds 30 seconds at a time.

• Keeps the worktop clear. This is a built-in model, so it goes into the cabinetry instead of taking up space beside the kettle.
• Room for a covered dish, not just a mug. 25 litres inside, so a full plate of food or a bowl of stew with a lid goes in whole.
• Browns food instead of only heating it through. The grill runs on its own or together with the microwave from the Micro./Grill/Comb. button, which is how you get colour on top of a dish.
• Nothing for grease to collect in. The controls are touch pads on flat glass with one dial, so the front wipes down in a single pass.
• Frozen food thawed without guesswork. Weight/Time Defrost lets you enter what the food weighs and leave the timing to the oven, or set the minutes yourself.
• Times the rest of your cooking as well. A Kitchen Timer/Clock button holds the time on the display and counts down a pot on the hob while the microwave sits idle.

Sigma rates the unit at 1450W. No depth figure is given on the manufacturer's card, so measure your cabinet opening front to back before ordering.
